Buy them in bulk. They tend to disappear very fast and you should always have one handy. Tuck one in the waist band of your clothes. Don’t leave them out on the table they disappear faster that way. Get mostly Black colored ones unless your signing material is darker colored, then go with silver or gold.
You should be able to make change for cash purchases. If you have an assistant you trust let them make change for you so you don’t have to be distracted. But if you are handling your own money, keep an eye on it and keep it close by. You should price your products in multiples of 5’s or 10’s to keep change simple.
You can get these at Staples. People wont think to buy something unless they know it is for sale. You should have well written or printed signs by your merchandise so people know they are for sale.
You should have business cards with your logo, name, email address and social media info on them. I usually recommend two different types of cards, a fan card which only has social media info, website details and etc. and a real business card to hand out to producers, directors, and business related meetings.
One tip for increasing sales and managing your time, you will be overwhelmed by the number of fans that want your attention and even more that are trying to score a date. Don’t get aggravated, be thankful for the attention. But also know how to manage your time. Business cards can be great for this. You can stop the conversation by saying “I’d really like to talk more but I am working take my card and email me we can chat further.” Whether you follow up of not is up to you, but you have politely taken your time back.
Credit Card Reader
Taking credit cards for hard goods purchases is easier than you think. You can sign up with SQUARE or PAYPAL, both send you a free reader that works with your phone. Both have a phone app you can manually input credit card info with. Now some of you may have had a bad experience with Paypal or didn’t think SQUARE could be used for adult. Fact is most e-commerce options do not like high risk adult purchases. What they do not like are digital goods like memberships, or skype shows or things that cant be proven that were actually delivered. You will be selling hard goods and collecting a signature so you should not encounter any issues.
Some tips on credit card sales:
For your account name, Don’t use your porn name. Buying something from someone that has a name that can easily be ‘googled’ and attached to adult is asking for issues. Use a company name, it is easy to make one up, but honestly you should have a company name, because, well hey you are a business.
When they sign electronically on your phone make sure you get their email address. Two reasons, it is more proof they actually bought the item, and second reason…email marketing is still more effective than most of the methods commonly used in adult. Two to three times more effective than social media marketing.
When you create your product name, give it a neutral name, like DVD #3 or Poster #1. The item names show up on the credit card receipt, be discreet. Not everyone has the luxury of being am out loud and proud porn viewer. In fact most don’t, respect that.
Take a free picture with everyone that buys something, it’s the nice thing to do and makes them feel good about their purchase. Number one customer complaint from adult entertainment producers that complain to their credit card companies is “buyers remorse” they feel like they have been ripped off or wasn’t given what they were promised. The customer doesn’t always have to be right but you should do your best to make them happy.
